LookDev — Create Lights
Create Lights converts selected Maya geometry into V-Ray lights while retaining an association with the source object.
What the visible controls do
- Type and Renderer
- Choose the light form for the selected geometry. The current workflow shown here targets V-Ray.
- Align and Match Size (BBox)
- Use source rotation and the source bounding box to place a light with less manual fitting.
- Attach Lights to Object
- Keeps the created light associated with the source object when that workflow is enabled.
- Basic and Advanced
- Start with the compact setup; open advanced controls only when the rig needs more specific tuning.
- Create Scope
- Controls whether creation uses the current selection or a broader selected scope before any new lights are created.
- Create Lights, Copy Log, Clear
- Create is the explicit commit step. The log actions help review what happened without changing the scene.
Light setup
Choose Auto, Rect, Spot, Sphere or Mesh Light, then set a preset, intensity, Kelvin and size scale. The current customer workflow is locked to V-Ray.
Placement and size
Use alignment, placement, Match Size (BBox), Flip Direction, source pivot and parent controls to position the new light. Attach Lights to Object keeps selected created lights connected to their source.
Create scope
Create from the current selection or from the selected hierarchy. Hide Source Mesh can hide the original fixture geometry without changing unrelated scene objects.
